What fields can reviewers come from?
advances.in/psychology is a psychology journal, so our reviewer pool is drawn from psychology. At the moment we can only onboard reviewers whose expertise is in psychology or in a closely related social / behavioural science.
Who we can onboard as reviewers
We welcome reviewers from across the subfields of psychology and their intersections — including researchers whose work bridges psychology with an adjacent discipline. In practice that includes people working in, for example:
- Clinical and health psychology
- Social, cultural, and community psychology
- Personality and individual differences
- Cognitive psychology and neuroscience
- Developmental, forensic, organizational, and sports/rehabilitation psychology
- Research methods for the behavioural and social sciences
- Adjacent fields where the work clearly connects to psychology — e.g. neuroscience, public health, education, sociology, political science, behavioural economics, or human-facing areas of computer science
The common thread is demonstrable expertise relevant to the psychological research we publish.
Fields we can't currently place
Because everything we publish is psychology, we are not currently able to add reviewers whose expertise lies entirely outside psychology and the behavioural / social sciences — for example pure STEM fields such as chemistry, physics, engineering, pure mathematics, materials science, or laboratory biology, when there is no accompanying background in psychology or a related social science.
This is not a judgement about the value of that work — it simply falls outside the manuscripts we handle, so we would have nothing relevant to send you to review. If your background spans one of these fields and you also have clear experience in psychology or a related social / behavioural science, you are welcome — please tell us about the psychology side of your work.
How to register once you're in scope
If your expertise is in psychology or a clearly related area, becoming a reviewer is a single step — register at advances.pub and add your topics of expertise so the editorial team can match you to relevant manuscripts. See How do I become a reviewer for the journal? for the details.
