What kind of agreement do I have to sign?

Updated 19 May 2026 · reviewers · agreement · legal

As an editor or reviewer, you agree to a Consultation Agreement that hires you as an independent consultant to complete the relevant task for us. That means you remain self-employed throughout the process — you are at no time being employed by us.

What this means in practice

  • You are responsible for any taxes owed in your country on the payment you receive (see Do I have to pay taxes?).
  • There is no employer relationship, no notice periods, and no obligation on your part to accept future review invitations.
  • The agreement covers a single completed review or editorial task at a time.

If you have specific legal questions about the agreement before you accept a review invitation, please contact us and we'll share the relevant text.

Still need help? Submit a request and we'll get back to you.
