What article types do you accept?

Updated 26 May 2026 · for-authors · submission · article-types

advances.in/psychology publishes several article formats. Each has its own word limit and conventions; the full author guidelines have the precise specifications.

Accepted formats

  • Empirical research articles — original studies reporting new findings.
  • Research reports / data reports — concise empirical contributions or stand-alone dataset papers.
  • Reviews — systematic reviews, narrative reviews, meta-analyses, scoping reviews.
  • Methods papers — statistical or methodological contributions, including software/library descriptions.
  • Perspectives and editorials — invited or unsolicited commentary on the state of a field.
  • Commentaries — short critical responses to previously published work. Commentaries undergo editorial (rather than external) peer review.

What we will not consider

  • Multiple submissions — a manuscript under consideration elsewhere.
  • Previously published work, or work that largely resembles content already published (beyond what's customary for preprints/theses; see our repository policy).

Originality is required, and all authors must comply with our authorship criteria.
